Elisabeth Hathaway, PhD

Elisabeth Hathaway, PhDAbout Elisabeth Hathaway
I practice general Clinical Psychology in a group practice office in downtown Petaluma, with a client-centered, collaborative, supportive and solution-focused approach. The work of therapy is to understand your concerns, identify a goal(s), and together design a program of psychological healing that takes your individual needs and situation into account and works through it. Together we plan your treatment, working to understand the nature, impact and source of any psychological obstacles to your mood or well-being, and to develop skills, strategies and more effective ways of dealing with any stressful life situations, habits, and conditions which interfere with your psychological well-being. The focus is on an effective and positive wellness program that works for you. Using these services successfully requires your active participation, both in sessions and when you are at home.

I am also the primary Clinical Supervisor and Co-Training Director in a training program for Doctoral and Master’s level interns earning their hours for licensure in a college setting. My clinical training and experience have focused on adult individuals, with a secondary focus on couples and supervision/consultation. My training and experience is based in both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral modalities, working with both short and long-term models. I have experience in multiple delivery models of clinical care: inpatient acute and residential, outpatient acute and subacute, including private practice, agency, multi-disciplinary health care, and Employee Assistance Program settings.

Treatment Modalities: I work with adults, older adults, couples and older adolescents, using Time-Limited (short-term) and Depth (longer-term) Psychotherapy. I am an integrative therapist with training and familiarity with many methods of treatment, including Psychodynamic, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), MBSM (Mindfulness-Based Stress Management), and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming).
